Sometimes I disappear. I retreat into my shell like a hermit crab. I think this can be traced back to my childhood.
I regroup and reflect.
This time I disappeared from social media, internet spaces, and the World Wide Web. I’ve been doing a lot of heavy introspection, analyzing my approach to a lot of things, tweaking my thought processes and coming face to face with fear. You know—the irrational kind.
A lot of people throw around the word imposter syndrome especially in writing spaces. I know who I am and what I bring to the table. I got the quintessential juice. That’s not the problem.
Kendrick Lamar once said “sometimes you gotta pop out and show niggas” and I don’t know if I’ve ever popped out 100 percent. J. David Osborne and Kelby Losack probably know what I’m talking about thanks to a lot of our convos in private where they’ve urged me to put myself out there more, and promote my work.
They’re not wrong. Sometimes I do this for a period of time until I stop and disappear, I’m not consistent with the juice. I owe it to myself to do more, I owe it to my readers, and I owe it to the world. I’m tired of half steppin, tired of being wallowing in fear, tired of being tired. Time to step outside my fear and see what’s on the other side.
In a Violent Nature
I saw this movie a few days ago and I was totally unprepared for it. Thought it was going to be a new spin on slasher flicks with the POV focused on the killer, which it was, but it’s so much more than that. A small town killer a la Jason Vorhees awakens in the forest after his mother’s locket is stolen. What follows is a slow-moving bloodbath.
Beautiful wide shots of nature with amazing lighting contrasts against some brutal kills and a ton of gore. There were times I questioned the slow pacing, but it ramps up the tension and dread of every kill. Tight cohesive storytelling and subtle callbacks to the folklore established early on in the movie. Highly recommended for extreme horror lovers.
The Clearlake Killer 1974
“Sean Malia Thompson has delivered a tightly coiled crime horror narrative in the form of 'The Clear Lake Killer: 1974.' Occult vibes, gritty cops, hair-raising tension, sharp dialogue, and plenty of bite.” —Grant Wamack, author of Bullet Tooth
I’ve been giving out blurbs left and right this year, feeling like Oprah. This was a secondary writing goal of mine this year that I’ve somehow managed to accomplish so shoutout to me.

Writing Updates
I’ve had some weird writing spurts the past couple of weeks. One day I wrote at 4 am, another day at 6 am, but I prefer writing at night or the evening. However, I feel like dancing between the lines of consciousness and dream consciousness is the wave first thing in the morning.

I wasn’t sure if Chance the Rapper had the juice to make a comeback. However, he proved me wrong with his inspirational single “Buried Alive.” Chano raps over soulful production and addresses all the issues that have been plaguing him.
It wasn’t too long ago that Cts Luh Wick caught a body and this adds a distinct level of authenticity to “Problem Child.” The boa can spit and his threats have a certain edge over this fire beat. STL drill music is alive and well.
I’m happy to hear Your Old Droog maintaining that NYC hiphop sound over “DBZ.” It’s no surprise that Method Man and Denzel Curry kill it. The claymation visuals are perfect, channeling the kinetic energy of MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch. The world needs more records like this.
Rich the Kid is having a crazy musical resurgence this year with his feature on Kanye’s “Carnival” and “Band Man” feels like another sure-fire hit. Crazy drums, an addicting flow, and a major flex. You want to feel yourself, listen to this…
Until next time…
