2023 Favorite List

You know what time it is! Here are my favorite pieces of media I consumed in 2023. This doesn’t mean everything came out in 2024 and these are in no particular order of superiority or quality. I left out the Broken River Books releases since those would consume my favorite books in general. With that said…

Dreamville’s own Bas is stranded somewhere in the middle of the desert, decked out in a dusty suit and expensive ass shades. He reminisces about an old flame—toxic and alcohol-fueled, but he can’t seem to shake this girl. You can hear his yearning, his pain, and his inner conflict in the soulful instrumental and the cadence of raps.
I have such a conflicted stance on Drake, the boy’s talented but doesn’t use it to the full potential as often as he should. Still, these music videos have been consistently good. Idk who the hell this guy is in the beginning is or the two girls bopping around after they blow up Drake’s car with glee. But it’s endearing and it’s great.
I was wondering what Chicago’s own Towkio has been up to and it looks like the boi is still cooking up futuristic raps. He seems to have gained some weight/muscle and is acknowledging his trapping older self while becoming more at ease with the more mature current day version of himself. Cool shit.
This is a wild trio of names I never thought to see together, but I had to click. I had to hear the musical concotion. You know Swae Lee hooks are untouchable while Pharrell & Rauw add the muscle and sinewy tendons to bring this romantic banger together.
Until next time…
