Movie Talk & Other Writing Anomalies

I can’t believe July is coming to an end, Jupiter went retrograde, and August is literally next week. I’ve been knee-deep pumping out SEO articles for the day job and I’ve been experimenting with the free version of Grammarly for the last few weeks. I’m not sure if this data is accurate, but apparently, I’m killing it or they’re stroking my ego in an attempt to get me to pay for the premium version.
Grammarly is cool, but sometimes it’s annoying when it comes to writing fiction or crafting something that’s breaking the so-called rules. Another experiment of sorts is using the Tomato Timer so I can write in concentrated bursts for 25-minute increments. It does help when I’m feeling avoidant or having a hard time making progress.
The illustrious Ryan Jackson invited me on the latest episode of the Mutual Aberration Society podcast to talk about the cult film Deadlock (1970). I loved it. If you love weird, off-kilter, beautifully shot flicks, this will be up your alley. Podcast link is here and here. And here’s a preview below.
On the writing front, I’m having a great time expanding and revising the new draft of Project Bullet Baby. Usually I’m big on minimalism, but I’m leaning into constructing longer sentences, fatter paragraphs, and foxy writing in this book. It’s like a medium rare steak with paella and a glass of vintage red wine on the side. I don’t want every book of mine to read the same and I like to push myself outside my comfort zone. We’re aiming for growth out here. I feel like this might be end up becoming my best book if it continues shaping up the way it is. Everyone says their latest WIP is their best work, but I really mean that shit.
Oh and there’s Project Colour of course. That’s still in the early stages. Bits and pieces are being painted on the page. A new publisher is interested…
Project Hum is moving along too. I have to turn in the short story collection relatively soon so I’m digging my heels in and revising these stories. Allowing them to unfurl and adding a nice layer of polish. Gary McMahon once told me the second draft cures all ills and that resonates on deep levels. My first drafts tend to be a lean, sloppy mess, but I’m able to make it nice and pretty the second go round. Check out his books. I feel like he’s highly underrated and deserves more fandom. Plus, he’s one of the few people who encouraged me to write more and submit fiction in the old days.
There’s another WIP project that’s moving along too, called Project Melancholy. It’s minimalistic, cyberpunkesque, and lovely. I have no idea what I’m going to do with this one after it’s done, but it’s different than my other books.
If you click this tweet above, you’ll figure out the titles of three collaborative books I’m working on. You already know about Suicide House, but the other two are at a certain stages completion/percolation.

Oh yeah, I’m doing a reading October 16th in LA at Stories Books & Cafe along with some heavy hitters listed above. This is the first time I’ve done a reading since 2016/2017 back when I was living in Seoul. I feel a bit rusty, but I’m excited to get back in the game so come through if you can.
And I recently moved my tarot readings services to a new site so if you need some intuitive insight let me know. You can check them out over here.

It’s good to see Rockie Fresh still dropping music and “Watch it Grow” is a feel good summer single called “Watch It Grow.”
Kodak Black bares his soul and embraces the villain role on “Haitian Scarface,” addressing rumors of him allegedly drug trafficking pills that were prescribed to him. “I’m the one they point at everytime they need a suspect…”
The orisha guided duo Oshun dropped a dope ass single called “100k.” Multi-dimensional bruja rap is my type of party. Kola nuts mentions and 7 day candles in the background is a plus.
Ed Sheeran and Russ align forces on the celebratory track “Are You Entertained.” The rapper and singer boast, brag, and flex in an entertaining fashion.
Hold on tight, my people, and hit that blunt when you’re feeling down…
