Art by Garis Edelweiss
This has been an interesting week to say the least. A lot of moving parts above and below. Don’t even get me started on the asinine arguments surrounding cozy horror on Twitter this week. Nothing’s cozy about the type of horror fiction I write.
We’ve completely moved out of Mercury Retrograde’s shadow, we have a strawberry full moon tonight, and Saturn goes retrograde June 17th.
What the hell does this astrological mumbo jumbo mean, Grant?
It means we should start to see forward movement in lot of areas in our life. I certainly have, but I’m waiting for things to finalize before I announce anything here. Saturn Retrograde is a good time to review your commitments, reassess limiting beliefs, and ask yourself is this truly worth it?
This is something I’ve been pondering across the board…
I had a friend in high school who would say the word infinity and gesture to his own head exploding. I thought that was the coolest shit ever for about three months…
I’ve been having some cerebral explosions of my own following my healing sessions detailed in the last couple of newsletters. This week I’ve noticed myself becoming more open and it makes me wonder how closed off have I been these last 7 years. Why do I say 7 years? That’s the length of time I’ve been a civilian since I got out the Navy.
Have I adjusted back to being a “normal” person? That’s hard to say. I was in a toxic romantic relationship for about six years and then you have to consider the isolation/paranoia during the COVID lockdowns. I have been extremely private in my personal life to the point that my older roommate tells me I act like an old man and I hardly go out.
I’ve noticed myself joking more at work and connecting to others with more ease. It feels significantly different than before. There was a distinct tension within me and fear that someone might hurt me in some way so I kept my lips tightly sealed.
Every December, I get a solar return tarot reading aka birthday reading, and a yearly astrological forecast. I revisit both of these ever so often and come away with something new every time. The tarot reading touches on my manifestation ability increasing, but also the awareness of the possibilities around me. Obviously as adults we can do just about anything we want law permitting, but we don’t always take advantage of this.
I’m looking around at different apartments, but for various reasons felt like I should only look in certain areas. I’m branching out and finding much nicer options that work for me that I didn’t think was possible before. This is one of the cool aspects of healing.
For example, I recently paid a good amount of money for a book cover for Project Bullet Baby aka B***** T**** and it was totally worth it. I have no idea when I’ll reveal it. (maybe late summer) The artist hopped on a phone call and we went back and forth on the concept. He checked in with me multiple times weekly and showed me progress updates and I’d send him notes back. The final product is stunning…
My writing plate is becoming lighter and lighter, which means its almost time to write some new books. I have been making small changes to the Melancholy’s Finest even though I realized that book is dropping towards the end of the month.
Do I dive into The Motorpapi Chronicles Book 2 or do I start writing Project Bunny Bloodbath? Then again, I could always write [redacted]…
I want to drop four books next year. Three of those will be horror since the people fuck with that.
I have a couple anthology invites, which means I need to whip up some short stories. Also, I plan on posting some tarot readings up here for paid subscribers soon…
Speaking of tarot readings, I’m offering 30% off everything in my store for a limited time. I’ve done readings for lawyers, writers, celebrities, mistresses, business owners, Marines, recovering drug addicts, etc. You can book a reading here…
Currently Watching: Love, Death & Robots Season 3 & Lost Season 1 & Yellowjackets Season 2
I’m sad the latest season of Yellowjackets is over. Great storytelling and some genuine creepiness.
Currently Reading: Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei & Gleipnir by Sun Takeda & The Train Derails in Boston by Jessica McHugh & Full Throttle by Joe Hill
Joe Hill’s collection is interesting…seems to be a homage to Ray Bradbury. Fun book so far and he’s writing his ass off. I just have a lingering question…Is this cozy horror?!?!
Currently Smoking: Random joints wrapped in fake money rolling papers
Listening: Black Tapes Podcast, The Danny Brown Podcast, The Higherside Chats
SPEAK is one of my favorite ghostwriters/rappers in the industry. Don’t let the simple black and white visuals. SPEAK comes through with some psychedelic yet witty bars and his presence speaks for himself (You see what I did there?)
“The point is I’m a lifer/Descendant of the sages and the griots in the cipher”
Brother Ali takes a trip down memory lane and calmly reflects on his long rap career. He casually drops some gems and tip his hat to every other rapper in the game. Powerful stuff for only being 1 minute and 50 seconds long.
I heard the name Snow Strippers and I have to say I was intrigued. The electronic duo hailing from Detroit drops a banger with “Under Your Spell.” I love the simple visuals and Tatiana’s kicks are fire.
The number of people who thirst over Ice Spice and proudly proclaim themselves as Munches is astronomical. Thankfully, Raud, 2Rare, and Bril are on the other side of the fence and refuse be to be in this category of thirst. The vibrant dance beat combined with the fun free-flowing raps is something that’s missing these days.
Until next time…
Copped a reading as a full moon belated birthday present to myself. 🙌🏽
