Mercury retrograde is approaching (April 21-May 14), and a big body eclipse is coming on the 20th, but the planets can’t slow me down. Got a fresh short story rejection, but I sent my baby right back out into the world. It’ll find its rightful home in due time.
And who cares about rejections when you have a new book dropping…the butterflies are going crazy in my gut. Every new book release feels like an exciting yet vulnerable time.
So The Hum of The World & Other Stories drops Monday on Amazon. Could be earlier than that in all honesty…This is my fifth book and I’m uber proud of this short story collection. Look at that amazing cover and those juicy blurbs. This is my longest book yet, clocking in around 155 pages for the paperback.
I’m offering preorders for signed copies here. I also updated my store so people could get the book shipped to the UK and Canada. Plus, I threw copies of the lightbulb book and the hippo book up there as well.
The esoteric cover art is done by Don Noble. Same talented artist who did the cover for God’s Leftovers.
People seem to like lists so this book contains
body horror
experimental drugs
springtime goddesses
zombies in the desert
static ghosts
bleeding gums
the cost of fame
a bird gawd
and more…
Also, if any reviewers want a digital ARC, leave a comment or message me on social media. I’ll send you an EPUB in exchange for an honest review. It helps a lot when people click “want to read” on Goodreads too. Hum will be uploaded to Book Sirens, NetGalley, and Edelweiss as well.
I lowkey started writing the sequel to Melancholy’s Finest. We’ll call it Project Frio Sangria. I want to make sure it’s ready to go for next year so you can look forward to one release every year for the next few summers. And of course The LV Diaries is moving forward.
Random pieces of dialogue have been coming to me including a scene in the project that will house The LV Diaries in the future…
Currently Watching: Love, Death & Robots Season 3 & Lost Season 1 & Yellowjackets Season 2 & Castlevania Season 4
Why didn’t anyone tell me how amazing Castlevania is especially Season 3 & Season 4? Ellis really knows how to write melancholy filled vampires with a badass flavor. Feels like my writer brain soaked up some things while watching this series.
Currently Reading: Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei & Gleipnir by Sun Takeda & The Train Derails in Boston by Jessica McHugh & The Tower by William Pauley III
I finished reading Sing Behemoth Sing by K.E. Wolfe earlier this week. This is the debut collabo between E. Rathke aka
and Kyle Muntz. Both of them are heavy hitters in their own right, but they come together like Goku and Vegeta in this dark fantasy novella. Their poetic voices are seamless and the prose really sings. If you like angels, people feeding off angels, and a desolate future, this book is for you. It’s a work of mythic proportions and carries a weight that lodges itself in your heart. Plus, it has the feel of the Shadow of the Colossus game which is a major positive.

Listening: Black Tapes Podcast & The Danny Brown Podcast
The music video for SCARING THE HOES is pure art. The crazy ass production, the Danny Brown Unforgivable reference/cover, the grainy visuals, the saxophone. Just incredible on all fronts.
Lil Yachty’s sister helped propel the snippet for this song and Lil Yachty finally released it as a full single (it’s sweet seeing them together in this video). Lil Boat has managed to craft one of my favorite songs of 2023 and floats over the wavy production. Protect Yachty at all costs.
The existential question of am I munch crossed my mind when I saw this video and the answer might be yes. Ice Spice combines forces with Nicki Minaj in a video full of pink hues, ass shaking, and shots designed for maximum virality. Like grah, Ice Spice is winning…
Saba’s one of my favorite Chicago emcees and one of the few people I actually know on a personal level. If you like lyricism and No I.D.’s soulful production, then this is for you. It’s good to see young Sebastian back in office. This is only feels like a taste of what’s to come.
Until next time…
