Summer Vibes in Suspension
Art by NAKI
We’re officially in the thick of summer with the summer solstice that passed on the 21st. Sometimes LA feels like one big simulation. People say buzzwords like “no cap” or I’m just living “off vibes.” Young people skating down the street in colorful clothes straight out of a 90’s movie I can’t recall. BBLs, designer clothes, a lot of skin. Despite the surreal vibes, I love the heat, I love the palm trees, the beach, the effervescent ebb and flow of the Westcoast.
Back when I was a journalist in the Navy, I dreamed of living out here. We’d pull up and dock in Coronado Bay. It would always feel right…the dreamy weather, the fine ass women, the palm trees. So much better than growing up in those frigid winters in the midwest. Moved here in the thick of COVID-19, but things have chilled out and there are plenty of storefronts open.
In other news, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade is disgusting. Shit like this makes me embarrassed to be American. This is a major step back for the U.S. and yes, I’m pro-choice. No one should have any say over a woman’s body and their natural right to bodily autonomy.
I’m currently going through some transitions, but they’re ultimately good and beneficial. And a long time coming. If you know, you know. No fresh news, but I did run across this interesting article that talks about how Google has been infiltrated by a cult-like group called the Fellowship of Friends. Their leader gained prominence in the 70s and of course turned into a creepy pedo. Their belief system is an off-shoot of the The Fourth Way, finding divinity through art, wine, and staying present.
In writing news, it’s more for the same. Juggling multiple projects, revising short stories, and working on Project Hum. I’m getting antsy since we’re getting closer and closer to August.

This is a chilling yet beautiful video/song. Joji displays a series of self destructive events while his heavenly vocals play in the background. He’s slowly imploding due to heartbreak but damn if it isn’t beautiful…
Forget Drake’s mid album… listen to Steve Lacy as he comes through with the jazzy, tropical vibes on “Mercury.” He’s thinking about Venus Retrograde, love, copping a new ride, and more. Such a feel good track for the summer.
Someone hand me a fan because this video has me sweating a bit. Doja Cat pays homage to Big Mama Thornton '‘Hound Dog” in this sensual video for “Vegas.”
I’m glad the dynamic duo is back with a wavy single for the summer. It’s light, fun and nothing too serious #SremmLife
I hope I didn’t ramble too much in this newsletter. Get out the house, protest, and get some sun.
