So we’re knee-deep in November and it’s actually starting to get chilly in LA. I’m high off some supreme indica while writing this. Surprise surprise. The travel bug is starting to get to me and I’ve been thinking about destinations around the world. The FTX scandal is a polycule gone wild. And it looks like Twitter has been gutted and seems to be on the brink of death.
Is this true? Is Elon Musk the final nail in the bird app’s coffin? Is this a psyop or just mass hysteria?
I don’t know, but it’s not looking good and none of Musk’s moves seems to be winning over the staff at Twitter HQ. It’s sad though. I’ve been on the app since 2009, and this was back when I was in college/transitioning into the Navy.
If Twitter does die, I might grieve this social media death for a little bit. In the early days of Twitter, I didn’t care too much for the app, but it’s been a fun ride. I connected with a lot of cool people, made some good friends, sold some books, conducted so many tarot readings, etc.
But who knows…this might be hysterics, meme culture, and/or a new beginning. I just wish the algorithm would return to its former self under the rule of Musk.
I had no idea M.F. Doom’s mask was in Seattle at the MoPOP. This is so cool. I feel like someone’s going to break into the museum under mysterious circumstances and steal away the legendary mask, starting a new line of villainy.
This girl on tiktok burnt a copy of Chandler Morrison’s book Dead Inside. Of course Twitter went into hysterics about it while Morrison shrugged the incident off. This is one of those cases where someone should actually read the back of the book and the blurbs before diving in. Splatterpunk is not for the faint of heart.
This random guy on goodreads thought my horror novella God’s Leftovers was the most unpleasant book he ever read. I take that as a compliment and now I feel accomplished by the feat.
Either way I wish someone would burn my book on tiktok. This might sound like a crazy statement, but it’s only going to drive sales up. I’d buy the book purely off the notoriety alone. Controversy is always good publicity.
I stumbled across this youtube book review of God’s Leftovers and had no idea this was someone who ordered a signed copy from me a while back. So I was pleasantly surprised to see my novella get on youtube and I’m happy the review was positive.
On the writing front, things have been somewhat slow due to the day job and life getting in the way. Project Bullet Baby needs one final surge and I’ll be done with this draft. It’ll probably end up being somewhere around 30k. I’m hoping this turns out to be my longest book.
I feel like I’m actually building on fanbase, so I want books dropping every year. I plan on completing a couple of other projects before the year’s over.
I had a couple of ideas for cool short stories pop into my head too. So I might bang those out next week.
Currently Watching: Moon Knight & Ozark Season 1
Currently Reading: God Damn Chainsaw Murderer by Sean M. Thompson & Nudes by Elle Nash & Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei & To Rouse Leviathan by Matt Cardin & Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Matt’s Cardin’s short story collection To Rouse Leviathan is powerful stuff. If you dig philosophical/religious horror and/or Thomas Ligotti, then you would love this book. It collects the vast majority of his short stories published throughout his career.
Currently Smoking: Baby Jeeter Blue Zkittelez
Currently Listening to: Black Tapes Podcast & The Danny Brown Podcast
I’ve been sleeping on Ray Vaughn. I heard some of his stuff in this past, but single really got my attention with the fervent energy and crazy bars. I secretly think this is the male version of Glorilla’s “F.N.F (Let’s Go).
I love Gunplay’s unhinged energy over this trap beat. MMG’s lieutenant still has the juice after all these years. I might need a full album…
“I Gotta Clean My Fishtank” sounds like something off a DJ Drama & Jeezy album and of course Rx Papi kills it. Hopefully, he can stay out of jail and continue dropping these gems.
It feels like church is in session whenever Rich Homie’s rapping. It’s good to see him getting the love he deserves and he keeps gracing us with these poignant soul-baring records.
Until next time…
I enjoy these updates a lot, man. The book burning got me pretty upset, but I've moved passed it. I was honestly more set off by the comments calling that chick "brave" and "iconic."
